View Full Version : May 27- Bats For Our Pelfrey
Say Hey
As we go for the series ender, here's hoping the bats stay alive for Pelf. And here's hoping the thunder storms in the area miss the game.
LGM!!!!

According to MLB Network (which is airing the game tonight -- if there is one), they emptied out a large area of the stadium because of a "suspicious" package. It looks like an LL Bean canvas tote bag. :idunno:
Aaaaaarge2
PLAY BALL!!! :)
Hope the delay didn't mess Pelfrey up...
Aaaaaarge2
Top of the 4th....
3 walks for Pelfrey so far...gotta cut that out. :naughty:
Aaaaaarge2
The Mets are a double-play machine (making them, that is)!
tigger
Whenever they mention the Flushing Flash I picture Mr. Met running around Citifield naked.

Bad enough when you tell us what you're thinking about Viggo....
MaricopaMetFan
Mr Met
The truth comes out!
Aaaaaarge2
Too many walks Pelf....
tigger
The truth comes out!
I do love Mr. Met.
uh oh, Howard up with two on (but two out).
Aaaaaarge2
And they got 'em...
Mets magic is working tonight :)
MaricopaMetFan
I do love Mr. Met.
The same way you love Viggo?
tigger
The same way you love Viggo?
It's a different kind of love, like the way I feel about Monster Cat.
Aaaaaarge2
Would be nice if they'd score some more runs for Pelf....
Aaaaaarge2
Geez, the Mets defense has just been spectacular....
Blanco throws out Ibanez and Pagan makes a great catch to end the inning.
tigger
Make them pay for that error guys!!
:yay: JOSE JOSE JOSE :yay:
Aaaaaarge2
Hee hee hee heee....I'M LOVIN' IT!!!!:yay: :yay:
tigger
Maybe if they didn't show just Mr. Met's hands when they mention the Flushing Flash I wouldn't be picturing him naked.
I don't even know what that is, I get so distracted by the Flash.
BringBackDaveTelgheder
Is this the same team from last week??
Keep pouring on the runs boys!
Aaaaaarge2
DW coming up with the bases juiced....
tigger
DW coming up with the bases juiced....
And leaving them that way.
Aaaaaarge2
...and comes up empty :(
tigger
Feliciano got me a little nervous, but our catchers seem to have a way with these guys. One word from Blanco and he was back on track, inning over, 3 outs to go.

I agree...Blanco and Barajas have been very pleasant surprises

Gary's putting the jinx on the shutout, shutup Gary.
According to him, last time the Mets swept and shutout a team it was the Phillies.
Aaaaaarge2
Get out your Tums....Frankie's coming in ;)
tigger
Shut up Gary.
Aaaaaarge2
SWEEEEEEEEP!!!!
3 consecutive shutouts against the Phillies...who'da thunk it!!!!!
Wow.

HELL YEAH! Beat the Brewers!
tigger
Pitching and defense.
 Pelfrey, way to rebound from the last time he faced these guys.
Ryan Howard looked like someone shot his dog.
Tormented
This is without a doubt one of the best series I've watched the Mets play as a whole from a good baseball perspective. Very good defense and exceptional pitching this series.
FanaticMumf
Awesome awesome awesome series by our boys. Hope it carries over to the Brewers. LETS GO METS!
Nanner
Fantastic! This series was incredibly sweet!!! I didn't get home until late, and because of the rain delay, still got to watch the game from the top of the 3rd! Thank you, rain!
What is the statistic they're saying about 1969? The Mets haven't had a shutout sweep of a team since the Phillies in 1969? Is that what they're saying?
Say Hey
Nice pitching; clutch hitting; fine defense.
Next.

BEFORE they clinched the NL East, I saw GTS defeat the Phillies at Shea in early September to become the first Mets pitcher to win 20 games in a season! :)
(He went on to win 25 that year)

So, we can conclude that Pelfrey, Dickey and Tak = Seaver, Koosman and Gentry.
I'm impressed.
My home Daily News had nothing about the game, either did the newspaper boxes at the train, but once I got in the city we got some nice back covers:

Blank You! I like that.
Good stuff. Keep the momentum going.

sweeps are fun. even better when it's sweeping the phillies. and better yet when it's sweeping the phillies without allowing them to score one single run.

Brings love to my heart and a tear to my eye ;)
I thought for sure that Phillies would score a "garbage run" in this game but the shutout sweep remained intact. Excellent job by the boys...now on to Milwaukee. Lets win a road series !!!!!!
Phil the Phan
Great win(s)....but I agree; someone really needed to tell Gary to shut up in the 9th inning.

I didn't care how excited he got, I cared that he was tempting fate by talking about what a shutout sweep meant.
And his record with discussing no-hit bids is well known.
Nanner
Those back covers are great!! I gotta get me some of those!

Speaking of which--am I the only one who caught Keith saying "we" last night and quickly correcting himself?
metfan41
Excellent series against the phoolish Phils. I was at the Wednesday game, it was great!!!
PS. I was happy to see all the Mets stuff around the stadium, they finally got things right. :)

I think I heard it too...he does that every now and then.

At least Keith played for the team. It's not like Hawk Harrelson, who never played for the White Sox yet says 'we' or 'us' a lot.
Keith's like the crazy uncle. You love him, but he's just nuts.

He does make me giggle... :)
I find him very entertaining especially when Ronny is in the booth with him...Ronny teases him like a brother.
Overall I think they try very hard to be objective, but now and then their "bias" does tend to surface...not anymore than any other announcer I'm sure.

I hear a lot of announcers, and ours really are better than most. Have you heard Rob Dibble do Nationals games? Bad. Really bad.

You hgad some extra words in there that I didn't understand, but this part I agree with :)

I'm not a huge Hernandez fan. I think he's smug but overall the Mets telecasts are better than the generic FSN telecasts most teams have.

Or Mark Grace on the D'Backs. He sounds like a drunk fan most of the time.
Phil the Phan
Keith even won an Emmy last year to my total astonishment. But does that I mean I have to like him?
Sorry--to my ears he's about as unprofessional as any announcer I can recall in the Mets booth.
And the fact that he once played here does not excuse the "first person plural" usage. He isn't a Met now--hasn't been one for about 20 years.
Even John Sterling doesn't do "we"--and the Yankees gave him a ring when they won the Series.
Khaos
Sterling was never a player on that team, ring or not.
I can excuse announcers who were former players of the team they are broadcasting for, the occasional "we"... particularly since Hernandez & Darling aren't big excuse-makers for the Mets. They are pretty critical when need be.

If you ask me, sometimes they go too far in the other direction, going on about how great the other team or player is....
As I said before, I do think they try very hard to be objective and fair.
And Phil, no you don't have to like Keith...to each his own.
Phil the Phan
I've never heard Darling do that. Never even heard Rusty do that. Keith is good for at least 5 a year.
It's inexcusably unprofessional regardless of who's doing it.
Khaos
I have certainly heard Darling do it, tho' not frequently. I think he's had to become more disciplined as he doesn't only broadcast Met games.
Someone beside Keith did it very recently - it may have done it last night. I noticed because it was someone other than Keith (Had to be Darling or Ojeda).
But it doesn't bother me when any of them do it. They are alumni.
Phil the Phan
Right--and no one here EVER criticized Rizzuto for it.
vtred
Phil...if the amount of times the human abortion Rizzuto did it was the Pacific Ocean...then the amount of times Keith has done it is about the amount of water used to brush your teeth...

I disagree. It bothers me when it's done whether they're alumni or not. It makes the broadcasts bush league.
We all want the Mets to win but I don't need the broadcasters being cheerleaders or homers.

what BMF said.

And Im all for announcers being happy when the team is playing well but I think there's a fine line when they start saying "we".
fanof41
I think Gary-Keith-Ron in the booth is GREAT baseball broadcasting/listening*.
As such, I'm willing to overlook certain/various "imperfections".
(* = For certain 'highminded' traditionalists, they may not be Murphy-Nelson-Kiner, but in getting all teams' games on DirecTV, there's no team that comes CLOSE to our 'Three On TV'!)

It would bother me, if it was every game/habitual.
But it's not.
