"Pedro, Jose and Shea" Dept. (Phils-Mets, 9/15/07)

Mets up, 3-1, through six innings.

Pedro with another solid performance, befitting a future first-round HOF'er: 6 IP, 7 H, 1ER, 0BB, 9K.

Mets had a chance to pad the lead in the bottom of the sixth. After Jose walked and stole his 77th base and Castillo walked (with two outs) and D-Wright coming to bat, Reyes for some reason tries to steal third (Castillo stayed on first) and was thrown out, ending the inning.

'Not sure what was going on there, but it sure seems like Jose was on his own, since Castillo wasn't going anywhere. Both should've stayed where they were with their best hitter up -- D-Wright has 29HR, 97RBI and a .315AVG.

Here's hoping this potential lost moment doesn't change the momentum in this game.

Well Philly just scored their second run....
this isn't looking good :(

I have to agree with Gary and Ron,
they just seem to play a different game against the Phillies than other teams.

greenwaver 09-15-2007 02:35 PM

Thus begins the late-inning self-destruction after another good starting performance. Mets are running themselves out of this game. Should end in a blowout.

Aaaaaarge2 09-15-2007 02:47 PM

Nice inning by Feliciano...

C'mon boys....score some more runs!!!

greenwaver 09-15-2007 02:51 PM

Very nice job by Feliciano. One unearned run. I already think back to earlier in the game when the Mets had bases loaded, no one out, and scored only ONE run--and not even on a hit, but a HBP!! Can't keep doing this shit. Shoulda been a monster inning against a very poor pitcher. And again, Alfonseca can ONLY get Mets out. Not any other team.

Tormented 09-15-2007 02:56 PM

I am utterly disgusted how given the opportunity to put Philly away they shy away and crawl under a rock. This is utterly shameful. PLAY LIKE A FRIGGIN PLAYOFF TEAM!

greenwaver 09-15-2007 02:59 PM

Sad that there is no relief pitcher available that can go more than one friggin inning...or one that you would even want to. Maybe Feliciano. Another squandered game. At least the Mets can beat shitty teams, which should get them into the playoffs. After that....

They are. This is how the Mets played in the playoffs last year against the Cardinals. They get tight and Willie's weaknesses as a manager are exposed.

NYMets316 09-15-2007 03:08 PM

And Jimmy Rollins and the Phillies embarrass the Mets AGAIN.

chrisann 09-15-2007 03:09 PM

Sickening, just sickening. Can I say it again? Sickening, just sickening. Time to go out and work in the yard, and listen to the radio instead, at least I don't have to see the garbage anymore.

qam1 09-15-2007 03:10 PM

I can't be mad at the bullpen, these loses are on the offense

The Phillies have a great offense, it just doesn't matter whose pitching they are simply going to score runs

But when our offense scores no runs when 3 batters are walked in an inning and only 2 or 3 a game, Mets are going to lose every time

greenwaver 09-15-2007 03:11 PM

And the rout is on. Beautiful timely hits by a superior team, consistent starting pitching, and superb relief. I think they will win the WS...well, they woud if all they had was the Mets in front of them. I predict they make it to the WS and lose in 4 to the Skankees, who will just laugh at them.

chrisann 09-15-2007 03:12 PM

Or how about against Kane? Two caught stealing in that inning, with Reyes caught at third. That pitcher was handing the game to them.

Yep. The Phillies are clearly in the Mets' heads. This is ownage that even the Braves never had outside of Turner Field.

chrisann 09-15-2007 03:17 PM

Here they go in the 8th, one out. Showing no life.

NYMets316 09-15-2007 03:19 PM

Let's hope the Mets can win the games they are supposed to against Washington and Florida in the next two weeks, otherwise it's going to be armageddon at Shea.

chrisann 09-15-2007 03:19 PM

First pitch by Tom Gordon, LoDuca flies out. Just keep going after the first pitch guys.

Tormented 09-15-2007 03:22 PM

I think the Mets are the biggest Phillie fans of em all :P

greenwaver 09-15-2007 03:23 PM

They should seriously consider just forfeiting the Sunday game to avoid unnecessarily straining themselves. Then they can get back to pounding the really shitty teams again.

Well, SNY is partially owned by Comcast, which broadcasts Phillies games and I believe has a minority ownership stake in the Phillies. Matt Yallof and others at the network came from Comcast SportsNet in Philly. So they're kind of in bed together. That's why they did those announcer switches when they were in Philadelphia earlier in the season.

greenwaver 09-15-2007 03:29 PM

Mota is in! The day is saved!

NYMets316 09-15-2007 03:32 PM

A suggestion to Charlie Samuels: just go with the black jerseys for the rest of the season. Screw the losing tradition and especially the pinstripes. The Mets have played better in black recently.

greenwaver 09-15-2007 03:45 PM

Marlon tossed. They can boast that they lead the league in whining!

The umpires have favored the Phillies all year in games against the Mets. That was an atrocious call.

Aaaaaarge2 09-15-2007 05:59 PM

Yeah...what is up with umpiring anyway?
Are they screwing up that much or are the players just whining about it more?

Seems lately that the amount of questionable calls are being made more frequently....

...athough in the end it shouldn't matter; a play-off caliber team should be able to work around bad calls

....as for a "stupid" play, that's another story
You can't get caught stealing with 2 outs, 2 men on base, and your best hitter at the plate

This is correct. A playoff caliber team plays beyond the level of the umpiring impacting the game.

Then what was the reason for the announcer switch last year in Boston? NESN isn't owned by Comcast, is it?

OK, first of all, how do we keep losing the battle of the bullpens to this team?

Second, hi Jim. It was a quick hello (you where on the phone) but first time I have seen you since opening day.

Thirdly, IMHO this site needs more pix. No one posts pix of games they go to. So here is:

chrisann 09-15-2007 07:05 PM

After moving to the radio, I couldn't stand watching anymore, I had to turn off the post game, tired of Willie's emotionless voice.

Phillies of 2007= The Braves of the late 1990's.

If there was ever such the team to makes the Mets brains turn to collective goo, this is it. But, remember the worse the Mets can do after the series is 3 1/2 games back, rather than 2 games back when we visited Philly back. I'd rather have 3 1/2 than 2, but 5 1/2 is even better. Still we need to win rather than rely on Atlanta and Philly losses, well except for tomorrow. ;)

As for the umpiring, there seems to be a movement between the MLB and the umpires to conspire on giving the Mets all the bad calls. Just kidding, but the Mets need to not take these calls too seriously, eg. LoDuca's argument after the 9th and ejection. Things could have been different in the 10th, but then again, who knows? Mets need to win tomorrow; not just for their record, but for their psyche. ( If they don't its their 3rd series where Phillies have swept them, reminds me of Syracuse vs. Georgetown basketball in the mid to late 1980's.)

madmike 09-15-2007 07:26 PM

This game was so crap-a-licious that words cannot describe it. The only thing that comes close to recounting our up-close-and-personal view is to vomit with rage into my free bucket hat.

greatbaboo 09-15-2007 08:02 PM

Pretty disgusting.

First time in a while I have seen various fist-fights break out in the stands.

Philadelphia sports fans are pigs.

It's owned by the Red Sox and the Bruins. Although, I did see a Comcast logo right next to the NESN logo on the sign in front of the Red Sox TV booth at Fenway, so they must have some sort of a partnership. ;)

Hate to say it, but Jimmy Rollins played like an MVP today--Wright did not.

How you figure? If Beltran does not misjudge the ball in the eighth, he goes one for five.

Lauren 09-15-2007 08:58 PM

Ugly!

Wright came up as the winning run in the 9th and he went down on strikes--looking bad in the progress.

Whether it was misjudged or not, Rollins had the biggest hit in the game, while Wright failed in the clutch.

Advantage Rollins.

I haven't seen that many chins since I saw a Chinese phone book. :P

I may have a stray playoff ticket or two for you if these jokers can stay out of their own way for the next 2 weeks.
