New Marlins Stadium
O man, do they have the ugliest thing in the outfield that will go off when a Marlins player hits a HR.
Check this out! http://blogs.sun-sentinel.com/sport...ting-glory.html

Behind home plate...that'll be good for distracting the pitcher! Also an outfield swimming pool, a bobblehead museum, and a tribute to the Brooklyn Dodgers.

Best user comment from the site: Lets say the Marlins are losing 9-0 and Greg Dobbs hits a pinch hit home run in the 9th to make it 9-1. Are they really going to press play on that thing?

I hate the apple coming out of a hat thing at Shea, this would make me vomit in my mouth (Not on a child like they do in Philly).

Oh no, did not mean to be misleading. They do it for every phan of the opposing team who shows up at their stadium.

Guady like most of Miami..... For a moment there I thought these knuckleheads were going to have Ali 'throw' out the first pitch.

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – It seems the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals have punked the Miami Marlins.
PETA, which objected to the installation of two enormous aquariums that serve as a home-plate backstop at the new Marlins Park (a/k/a The Fish Tank), purchased one of the commemorative bricks on display in the East Plaza. The brick reads: “Florida Is Still Hosting Incredible Night Games. Help Us Reach The Stars. Cheer Our Marlins!” There’s nothing wrong with that message but PETA has a hidden message in the engraved stone. The first letter of each word spells out “FishingHurts.com.” It’s a page on PETA’s website about what it claims to be cruelty involved in fishing. “PETA’s brick is designed to remind everyone that fish feel pain and suffer when they’re impaled with a sharp metal hook and pulled into an environment in which they can’t breathe,” said PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman in an e-mailed statement. “Instead of hooking fish, PETA wants Marlins fans to get hooked on compassion—and bench fishing permanently.” According to PETA, Marlins are a species of fish which are intelligent, sensitive animals who feel pain. Fish which are caught and released often die from their injuries.

Not a PETA fan, and this surely isn't the place for a conversation on PETA, but the hidden message thing......brilliant!
Curious if anyone else has heard of PETA doing that in NY with the fan walk bricks.

This is a very serious question--aside from making a lot of noise and being the butt of numerous jokes that they bring on themselves, exactly WHAT does PETA do?

Shocking video captured the moment an 11-year-old girl plummeted 20 feet from a climbing wall at the Florida Marlins’ baseball stadium.
Jeff Davis was recording his daughter Emily during her ascent to the top of the rock-climbing wall with his cell phone when, to his horror, she fell backwards. “I’m just thinking be alive, be alive, be alive, that’s all that was in my head, be alive,” he told NBC Miami. Emily suffered a concussion in the fall, but was able to move her arms and legs, her family said. The Marlins said in a statement that the rock-climbing wall was closed following the accident. “The Marlins will continue to prioritize safety for all activities taking place at Marlins park,” the team added. “We wish her well in her continued recovery.” Emily’s accident is believed to be the first on the wall which opened as part of the new Marlins park in March. Jeff Davis believes that the steel cable that was supposed to be connected to his daughter’s harness was not properly linked, Fox 13 reported. Emily, according to Fox 13, was the first climber in line. Read more: http://www.nydailynews.com/news/nat...4#ixzz1wNVhhZYv
